Three Working Days for Civil Servants

Governor Rochas Okorocha, Imo state, issued a three day working policy on the 1st of August for civil servants. According to the policy, workers are to work between Mondays and Wednesdays.
The Nigeria Labour Congress refused to abide by the new policy given and carried out a protest. Few days after the protest, Okorocha confirmed that cutting the working days would not interfere with the salaries being paid.

"I will not cut workers salaries because of two days" he stated

On his return from overseas, he informed journalists present that the remaining two day, Thursdays and Fridays, would be set aside for agricultural activities. He also noted that workers who refuse to come to their post without written permission from the Head of Service or Chief of Staff, would loose the position to his fellow community member

He informed them that cutting the working days is beneficial as workers were not prudent enough and nothing was produced in the state. Dedicating two day for agricultural activities would ensure that community members take active parts in activities, putting enough effort. And this indeed would increase government revenue for the development of Imo and the economy as a whole as agriculture is a means of revenue generation. He stated that workers had been paid up to August, 2016 and promised to pay pensioners owed.

He also stated that over 3000 fresh computer graduates would be employed into the civil service and expressed genuine sadness about the fact that over 95% of imo state workers were computer illiterates.

Okorocha made very clear his intentions for the civil servants to avoid further demonstrations by The Nigeria Labour Congress.
